Research Bioethics
According to “The Bioethics (Establishment and Function of the National Committee) Law of 2001” (N.150(I)/2004), the “Operational Guidelines for the Establishment of Ethics Committee in Reviewing Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects in Cyprus”, the Oviedo Agreement Law (N. 31(III)/2001) and the” Good Clinical Practice on Drugs Laws” (N.70(I)/2001) , a bioethics control of the biomedical research in Cyprus, as it is defined in the aforementioned Laws and Regulations, is required. The bioethics control includes constant monitoring, survey, systematic analysis and evaluation of the issues and problems that relate to the scientific research, progress and implementation of the sciences of biotechnology, biology, medicine, genetics and pharmaceutics as well as to the human intervention on the biological procedure and the human genotype and the investigation of their moral, deontological, social, humanistic and legal dimensions"
The bioethics control is the mission of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee (CNBC).
According to the aforementioned, the signature of the Research Project Contracts of the Projects for which a bioethics control is required will be realized after obtaining and submitting to RPF, by the Host Organisation / Project Coordinator, the positive bioethics review by the CNBC.
In order to speed the procedures, the applications to CNBC could be submitted immediately after the announcement of the results by the RPF and in parallel with the negotiation procedure between RPF and Host Organisation. The CNBC, according to the Guidelines, has the obligation to make a decision within 40 days from the date of the submission of the application.
The compliance to aforementioned Laws and Regulations is an exclusive liability of the researchers who submit the Project.
